A Simple Garment

The previous ankle-length camisoles were too bulky for women to wear under their elaborate dresses in the eighteenth century Europe. Therefore, these contemporary chitons were shortened to the waist level to add comfort and style when wearing a corset. In addition to the shortening of the simple camisoles, the quality of the materials used to create them was improved. While before a camisole was made of the small pieces of muslin, later it could have been made of high quality cotton, silk, or linen. Camisole protected women’s bodies, corsets, and dress from sweat and dirt, and therefore was a great part of women’s hygiene. As a matter of fact, camisole was the only garment that was washed regularly by women in the eighteenth century. In conclusion, there is no better dancewear than a simple and fun nylon and spandex metallic camisole. It is bright, stretchy, durable, and easy to take care of – just the right piece of a dancing outfit. Nylon camisole takes its forms and purposes from the chiton, and ancient tunic worn by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. In the eighteenth century the original camisole was shortened to the waist level and started to look like the modern camisole.
